Johannes Nitsch (musician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Nitsch (born July 10, 1953 in Iserlohn ; † September 5, 2002 ) is one of the most influential German musicians of modern, popular Christian music . Since the 1970s he has shaped the scene as a singer , instrumentalist , arranger , producer and, last but not least, as a songwriter . His compositions include almost 200 songs and melodies and twelve stage concepts.

Live and act

Johannes Nitsch was born as the fifth of seven children of a pastor couple in the Letmathe district of Iserlohn . After graduating from secondary school, he began studying music at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen in 1971 thanks to a gifted test . Beyond his civil service, Nitsch remained in 1978 as a music consultant at Evangeliums-Rundfunk in Wetzlar and was head of the music department there until 1980. 1980 to 1985 and from 1994 he worked as a freelancer. In between he worked as a music advisor at the YMCA in Kassel (1985–1987) and as a music producer at the Hänssler Verlag in Neuhausen (1987–1994).

Johannes Nitsch is one of the most important church musicians of modern popular church music and is often seen as one of the greatest masters of Christian musicals. His artistic work shows him to be one of the most creative musicians of his time. His most frequent topic is the world of religion and the personal confrontation of the individual with the Christian God and Jesus . The central theme was always forgiveness and devotion to God.

His musical compositions varied in jazz , soul and pop music , but gospel music and chorale settings can also be found again and again in his work.

In the course of his life Johannes Nitsch produced over 70 records for various labels and was also involved in numerous productions as an arranger, instrumentalist and singer. He worked with almost all well-known personalities of the Christian music and artist scene. Special mention should be made of: Manfred Siebald , Margret Birkenfeld , Cae Gauntt , Kathi Arndt , ERF Studiochor , Christoph Zehendner , Doris Loh , Peter Strauch , David Plüss , Jan Vering , Die Christussänger , Christiane , Jürgen Werth , Clemens Bittlinger , Martin Stoeck , Helmut Jost , Wetzlarer Jugendchor , Attila Kalman , Ralf Gustke , Peter Schneider, Helmut Kandert , Siegfried Fietz and Florian Sitzmann . In cooperation with a wide variety of artists, he also created concepts such as PianOmime with the Spanish mime Carlos Martínez , Pianissimo with David Plüss and Helmut Kandert, and most recently the In Motion Trio . He was also the leader of the ProChrist band.

With the singer Christine Rösch and the Hohe Mark Clinic , he developed the project Lieder wi (e) der die Angst with concerts against violence and abuse of power.

As a sponsor of the following generations of artists, he set up the “Music, Culture and Young Talent Promotion” association in Hohenahr.

He died unexpectedly on September 5, 2002 at the age of 49 from complications after an operation.
