Julija Walentyniwna Dschyma ( Ukrainian Юлія Валентинівна Джима ; born September 19, 1990 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian biathlete .
Career
Yulia Djyma, daughter of Walentyn Djyma , lives in Kiev. She studies at Sumy State University and also works as a trainer. She started biathlon in 2005, has been a member of the Ukrainian national team since 2009 and is trained by Oleksandr Kravchenko and N. Kravchenko. Dschyma made her international debut at the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2008 in Ruhpolding , where she was 31st of the individual and in the sprint was 61st and missed the pursuit race by one place. The 2009 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Canmore went better , in which she was 12th of the individual, 24th of the sprint and 17th of the pursuit and as fourth with the relay just missed a medal by one place. In the junior races of the European Biathlon Championships in Ufa in 2009 , she also missed a medal as fourth, but won the bronze medal in the individual behind Olga Wiluchina and Synnøve Solemdal . In addition, she was 12th in the sprint and fifth in the pursuit. In the further course of the year, the Ukrainian also took part in the junior cross-country races of the 2009 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof and reached 22nd place in the sprint and 15 in the pursuit. After switching from youth to juniors, Dschyma was unable to match the results of the previous year at the 2010 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Torsby with places 44 in the individual and 41 in the sprint. Again she achieved better results in the junior races of the Biathlon European Championships 2010 in Otepää ; she was ninth in the individual, 22nd in the sprint, 14th in the pursuit and seventh with the Ukrainian mixed relay. Dschyma showed better performance than the year before at the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2011 in Nové Město na Moravě . In the individual, she just missed a medal as fourth, was 35th in the sprint, 25th in the pursuit and fifth in the relay. This was followed by the junior races of the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2011 in Nové Město, where Dschyma won the bronze medal in the sprint behind Olga Galitsch and Monika Hojnisz , and as fifth in the pursuit race and fourth in the relay just missed further medals.
Since the beginning of the 2011/12 season , Dschyma has competed in the women’s IBU Cup . In the first race in Beitostølen , a sprint, she immediately won first points in 33rd place. In the further course of the season she managed a first top ten placement in an individual in Nové Město in seventh place. With a total of four results among the top ten, she was eleventh in the overall standings. In the Biathlon European Championships in 2011 in Ridnaun , her first major event for the women, they won with Olena Pidhrushna and Semerenko - sisters the gold medal in the Ukrainian season. In the individual she was 30th, 19th in the sprint and 14th in the pursuit race. In the 2011/12 season , the Ukrainian came in second behind Jekaterina Glasyrina in Obertilliach on the IBU Cup podium for the first time. In the further course of the season she made her debut in Oberhof in the Biathlon World Cup and won points in the first race as 34th of a sprint. At the 2012 European Biathlon Championships in Osrblie , she again won the title with the relay team from the previous year. She was also 15th in the individual, 25th in the sprint and 18th in the pursuit. In the sprint race of Oberhof in the 2012/2013 season , Julija Dschyma took sixth place for the first time in the top ten of a World Cup race. At the Biathlon World Championships in 2013 in Nové Město na Moravě , she won the silver medal with the Ukrainian relay team in the same line-up as at the 2011 European Championships. In 2014 she became an Olympic champion with the relay in Sochi .
The next two seasons were less successful, but some Jyma had top 10 placements. In the 2016/17 season she was able to improve again and with eighth place achieved the best overall World Cup placement of her career. She also won three medals at the European Championships in Duszniki-Zdrój, Poland, and the silver medal with the relay at the World Championships . In the 2017/18 season she was third in two races in Östersund, Sweden . At the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Dschyma could only start in the individual due to illness, which she finished in 20th. With the season she was eleventh, with the mixed season she came in seventh.
On December 6, 2018, she won her first individual race in the World Cup on the Pokljuka thanks to an error-free shooting.
