League Cup 1984/85
The League Cup 1984/85 was the 25th edition of the English League Cup , which had existed since 1960 .
The competition started on August 27, 1984 with the first round and ended on March 24, 1985 with the final at Wembley . The title went to Norwich City , with a 1-0 final win over Sunderland AFC . Norwich won the League Cup for the second time since 1962 in its fourth game in the final. For the first time, at the end of the season, both finalists from the Football League First Division 1984/85 rose to the second division. The decisive goal came in the 47th minute when Sunderland defender Gordon Chisholm deflected a shot from Norwich's Asa Hartford into his own goal. Just five minutes later, Clive Walker missed the equalizer for Sunderland AFC with a missed hand penalty.
