Lipowo ( Russian Липово , German  Kulligkehmen , 1938 to 1945 Ohldorf (Ostpr.) , Lithuanian Kulikiemis ) is a place in the Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad in Gussew Rajon . The place belongs to the municipal self-government unit city district Gusew .

Geographical location

Lipowo is located on the west bank of the Rominte (Russian: Krasnaja) on the south-eastern outskirts of Gussew (Gumbinnen) , three kilometers from the city center. The regional road 27A-011 (former German Reichsstrasse 132 ), which connects Gussew with the Polish city of Gołdap (Goldap) , runs through the village . Gusew is the next station on the Kaliningrad – Nesterow railway line (Königsberg – Stallupönen / Ebenrode) , a section of the former Prussian Eastern Railway , for onward travel to Moscow .

history

In 1539 the village, then still called Colliglauken , was first mentioned in a document. On March 18, 1874, Kulligkehmen became Amtsdorf and thus gave its name to a newly established district which - when it was renamed "Ohldorf (Ostpr.)" In 1939 - existed until 1945 and belonged to the Gumbinnen district in the Gumbinnen district of the Prussian province of East Prussia .

The rural community of Kulligkehmen counted 835 inhabitants in 1910, who lived in Kulligkehmen itself and also in the associated villages Drücklershöfchen (today Russian: Michurinskoje), Johannisthal and orphanage Daheim (both no longer exist). On September 30, 1928, the Serpenten manor district (no longer existing) was incorporated into Kulligkehmen, so that the population rose to 954 by 1933 and even to 1,182 by 1939.

On June 3rd - officially confirmed on July 16th - of the year 1938, Kulligkehmen was renamed "Ohldorf (Ostpr.)". In 1945 the village came to the Soviet Union in the wake of the war with northern East Prussia .

In 1947 the place was renamed Lipowo after the Russian word lipa for linden tree and at the same time the seat of a village soviet in Gussew Rajon . From 2008 to 2013 Lipowo belonged to the urban municipality of Gusev gorodskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district of Gusew.
