List of foreign orders and decorations with German approval
The overview given below corresponds to the "List of foreign orders and decorations for which individual acceptance is not required" according to the Federal Gazette of April 10, 1997 No. 67, pages 4729/4730.
This list no longer exists!
With the new version of the "Announcement of the Federal President on the granting of acceptance and wearing permits for certain medals and decorations" of May 6, 2009 (entry into force May 7, 2009), this list became invalid, as it is no longer mentioned in the new version of the announcement .
With the entry into force of the new version of the above-mentioned announcement "the approval required according to § 5 of the law on titles, medals and decorations to accept medals and decorations ... is granted in the following cases at the time the award is presented:"
- “For medals and decorations awarded by the United Nations, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Western European Union or a member state of the European Union, the Council of Europe or the North Atlantic Treaty or with their approval;
- for medals and decorations awarded as part of an exchange of medals on the occasion of state visits;
- for medals and decorations that are awarded to recalled diplomats within the framework of reciprocity. "
Individual acceptance approval from the Federal President must be obtained for all medals and decorations not listed in the announcement. The application must be submitted to the Federal Office of Administration.
The medals and decorations listed in the following (no longer valid) overview are - if they do not meet the criteria of the new version of the above-mentioned announcement - wearable if they were awarded before the new version of the announcement came into force.
The following - now invalid - list is for information only and no longer corresponds to the current status of the legislation!
This list gives an overview of the foreign medals and decorations for which an acceptance permit (and thus a wearing permit) has been granted by the Foreign Office in Germany in accordance with the provisions of Section 5 of the Law on Titles, Medals and Decorations of Honor of July 26, 1957 .
