history

Baumgarten got its name after Andreas von Baumgartner (1793-1865), director of the kk tobacco control , which he headed from 1842 to 1848. Baumgarten was founded in 1843 when 30 German families from Neupanat were settled here. In 1846 another 30 families from Glogowatz were added. In 1853, 60 Hungarian families were settled in the village. The Hungarian place name was Fakért (Hungarian: Fa = tree, wood and Kért = garden, orchard).

On June 4, 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon . The largest, eastern part, to which Baumgarten also belonged, fell to the Kingdom of Romania . Since then, the official place name is Livada .
