Lohberg is a municipality in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham .

Geographical location

Lohberg is located in the Bohemian Forest in the east of the Lamer Winkel on the southern slope of the Great Osser . The Kleine Arbersee is located in the south of the municipality. Lohberg is the easternmost municipality in the Upper Palatinate . The White Rain flows through Lohberg .

history

Until the church is planted

In 1447 Lohberg was first mentioned in the tithe books of the Rott am Inn monastery . The area between Ozzer (Osser), Dwerchecke (Zwercheck) and Hadwich (Arber) was given to the monastery as a gift from Bishop Henricus, Count von Rotteneck , Regensburg, for clearing and settlement.

Administrative affiliation

Lohberg belonged to the Straubing Rent Office and the Kötzting Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , the municipality of Lohberg was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

After being incorporated into the Regen district as part of the regional reform in Bavaria with effect from July 1, 1972, Lohberg has belonged to the Cham district since May 1, 1978, and thus to the Upper Palatinate.

mayor

Mayor since May 2008 is Franz Müller ( CSU Free Voting Association). He is the successor to Johann Mühlbauer (CSU), who was mayor for two terms. Müller was elected for a further six years on March 15, 2020 with 93.9% of the valid votes.

Municipal council

In the municipal council election on March 15, 2020 , the joint list of the CSU and the Free Voting Community received all twelve mandates; the second nomination (AfD) with only one applicant did not get a seat.

Culture and sights

In the Bayerwaldtierpark Lohberg , opened in 1989, you can observe animals that live in the Bavarian Forest or were once at home here in natural surroundings. You can see a large wolf enclosure, reindeer, raccoons, eagle owls, bison, red deer and elk. A renowned glassworks and gallery has found a home in the old church of Lohberg. Exhibitions and cultural events take place there regularly. Vernissages by local artists and other cultural events take place in the restored Schwarzauer-Haus monument , which houses a picture and art exhibition.

Economy including agriculture and forestry

In 1998, according to official statistics, there were no employees in the manufacturing sector and no employees in the trade and transport sector at the place of work. There were a total of 642 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There was one company in the manufacturing sector and six companies in the main construction sector. In addition, in 1999 there were 33 farms with an agricultural area of ​​393 hectares, of which 18 hectares were arable land and 368 hectares were permanent green areas.

The largest employers in 2016 were the Topclean laundry and the Osser-Bier brewery.

tourism

The place offers numerous accommodation options with country hotels, guest houses and holiday apartments. Tourist hiking destinations are u. a. the Osserschutzhaus "Haus Willmann" on the Großer Osser and the idyllically situated Kleine Arbersee . The 150 km long Bavarian Forest trail begins in the Scheiben cross-country ski center . Numerous inns, restaurants, cafes and snack bars as well as taverns and bars offer refreshments.

education

There are the following facilities:

• Day care center with 50 approved places and 28 children (as of March 1, 2018) and
• Lohberg elementary school with two teachers and 36 students (as of the 2018/19 school year), which is one of the smallest schools in Bavaria.
