NGC 526A is a lenticular galaxy in the Sculptor constellation , approximately 240 million light years from the Milky Way . Nearby is another galaxy, for which the number NGC 526B has been assigned.
The object was discovered on September 1, 1834 by the British astronomer John Frederick William Herschel .
