Eilendorf is a district and administrative district of the city of Aachen , urban region of Aachen , has approx. 15,000 inhabitants and borders with its districts Eilendorf and Nirm on the districts of Brand , Rothe Erde and Verlautenheide as well as on Stolberg- Atsch .
history
Eilendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1238 in a deed of gift from Abbot Florence von Kornelimünster to the St. Adalbert Stift in Aachen . Above all, mining developed according to Galmeierz , which is no longer operated today, but a symbol for this can still be found in the Eilendorfer local coat of arms. In addition, it was in a hurry village dolomite - Quarries and there was grease and hydraulic lime produced. From 1577 to 1583 Eilendorf suffered billeting, looting and pillage by foreign troops in the Truchsessian War . In the years 1630–1640 the Thirty Years' War in Eilendorf showed its horrors, these were only surpassed by the ruthless pillage in the robbery of Louis XIV in 1678. The Kornelimünster Abbey came to an abrupt end in 1794 with the French Revolution. It was dissolved in 1802, and all spiritual goods became national property. Eilendorf formed a political union with forests, ponds and farms as early as 1797.
The Eilendorfer area extended in an easterly direction to the Propsteier forest and to Eschweiler- Aue . In 1884, for example, the Stolberg station was built on the railway line in this corner of the Eilendorf area. On April 1, 1886, Eilendorf left the forest mayors' association and became an independent mayor, but the old municipal boundaries were retained. On April 1, 1897, Eilendorf got its own railway stop for passenger and freight traffic. Eilendorf and Nirm formed a village community from April 27, 1900. In 1908 the first pharmacy opened in Eilendorf. In 1935, the Atsch came to the city of Stolberg from Eilendorf as part of a regional reform within the then Aachen district .
Until the regional reform in North Rhine-Westphalia , Eilendorf was an independent municipality. The incorporation took place on January 1, 1972 through the Aachen Law (1971) . Today's district office has its seat in the former Eilendorf town hall .
With the incorporation of the municipality of Eilendorf into the city of Aachen, those responsible saw the opportunity “to solve upcoming municipal problems on a larger scale and to create a basis for a balanced living space, as is required for a healthy community in our time”.
Name story
The original name (no exact dates possible) of the place was Erlendorf . The moist soil provided the biological prerequisite for alders , which gave the place its name at the time. Through the Aachener Platt , Erlendorf became the current name Eilendorf.

The Eilendorfer town coat of arms is divided vertically into two parts and shows on its left (heraldic right) side two crossed mining tools on a blue background and a stylized Galmeiveilchen underneath , while the right (heraldic left) side shows a cornelian horn on a red background. The Korneliushorn indicates that Eilendorf belonged to the imperial abbey Kornelimünster .

Until December 31, 2009, Eilendorf was divided into two Catholic parishes , St. Severin , which is one of the oldest parishes in the Aachen area and was founded by the imperial abbey Kornelimünster, and St. Apollonia , which is part of the neighboring district with the parish of St. Barbara Rothe Erde form a parish union with a common pastor. On January 1, 2010, the three previously independent parishes of St. Apollonia, St. Barbara and St. Severin were merged to form the new parish GdG Aachen-Ost / Eilendorf . Parish church is St. Severin; St. Apollonia and St. Barbara are now branch churches. As a result of this merger, since then there has only been one church council and one parish council for the new parish of St. Severin; there are parish committees in the individual parishes.
St. Severin
The parish of St. Severin goes back to the founding of the imperial abbey Kornelimünster: At the site of a first (probably Romanesque ) church, Abbot Hyacinth Alfons, Count von Suys (1713–1745) had a new, stylish church built. Parish patron was St. Sebastian. This church was replaced in 1864 by a larger, three-aisled church in the neo-Romanesque style (today's parish church) according to the plans of the Cologne builder Heinrich Wiethase . In the years 1904 to 1908 the church received a larger bell tower. The foundation stone of the church built by Abbot Hyacinth can be seen in this tower . The rededication to the new parish patron, Saint Severin of Cologne, took place in the course of the later incorporation of the parish into the Archdiocese of Cologne .
St. Apollonia
The church of St. Apollonia is located in Oberdorf on Heckstrasse at the height of the Apolloniaweg. The building designed by the Aachen architect Peter Salm was erected between 1959 and 1961. The foundation stone was laid on August 23, 1959. On March 24 and 25, 1961, the church was consecrated to St. Apollonia by Bishop Johannes Pohlschneider . This patronage was chosen because of the nearby Apollonia Chapel. Also on March 25, 1961, the Vicarie St. Apollonia was established by the bishop within the parish of St. Severin, which was elevated to an independent parish vicarie on December 12, 1964, and finally to a parish on January 21, 1969.

The Protestant Church of Reconciliation with an integrated community center was founded in 1979. It forms the parish of the Reconciliation Church within the Evangelical Church District Aachen.
There is also a Jewish cemetery on Von-Coels-Straße shortly after leaving the village in the direction of Stolberg .

Settlement geography and architecture
The oldest preserved building in the village is the Pannhaus , the former compulsory brewery. As visible from the outside cornerstone of a well subsequent extension to this Pannhaus (see. The Kinzweiler Pannhaus ) is the former pillory hurry village.
50 years ago there were manors and fields between Aachen city center and Eilendorf, today there is a seamless transition through the construction of the industrial areas Rothe Erde and Eilendorf-Süd.

The highest elevation in Eilendorf is the Wolfsberg - known on Öcher Platt (Aachener Platt) as "Knopp" - or God's blessing, at around 230 m above sea level. From there you have a view of Aachen , a few kilometers in good weather , to the Aachen city forest (the highest point is the Klausberg) and the Eifel . It is used for tobogganing in winter and for sunbathing in summer.
Due to the proximity to the Eifel, there is a difference in altitude of around 50 m between the district of Nirm and the "Eilendorfer Oberdorf".
Eilendorf is largely surrounded by fields and a nature reserve, apart from the west, which is connected to the Rothe Erde district . The free land is occasionally farmed, mainly with cows, less often with agricultural cultivation . The number of farmers has decreased enormously in the last 50 years, not only due to the increasing development. Most of the meadows are used for making hay. The Haarbach (Wurm) with an original length of almost 9 km is a tributary of the Wurm and flows northeast in the direction of Eilendorf, passing under the Aachen-Eschweiler railway line at the Nirm district.

Road connection
In contrast to the other places in and around Aachen, Eilendorf has quite a number of intersecting streets. This can be traced back to the time when it was decided to build space-saving.
In the west, Eilendorf borders the Madrid Ring as part of the Aachen outer ring and is connected to this with the L 221 that connects Aachen with Stolberg.
The federal motorway 44 runs through the east of Eilendorf without a junction. Plans for a southern bypass L 221n with a motorway connection have existed for decades, but so far have not progressed beyond an early planning stage.
Transportation
Important public transport in Eilendorf are buses ( ASEAG lines 2, 7, 12, 22, 50, and N8, as well as 27 and 37 in the industrial area) and the train . It takes between 20 and 30 minutes by bus to get to Aachen city center.
At the Cologne-Aachen high-speed railway which is Eilendorf station . It is served by the Euregiobahn trains every 30 minutes during the day . The travel time from Eilendorf to Aachen-Rothe Erde is around three minutes, the travel time to Aachen Hbf is around seven minutes. On weekdays, individual NRW-Express repeater trains stop in Eilendorf in the morning and in the evening .
Sports
In Eilendorf there are three football clubs, SV 1914 Eilendorf (currently Middle Rhine League), DJK 1919 Arminia Eilendorf (regional league) and SC 1928 Nirm (district league C). All three football clubs are spread over three different sports fields, with SV Eilendorf and Arminia Eilendorf each having a grass field and an artificial grass field. SVE is active on Halfenstrasse, Arminia plays in the stadium on the Linde and SC Nirm plays on the Scheidmühle sports field in Wolfsbendenstrasse.
There is also the Eilendorfer HC e. V. 1976 (1st association league), a volleyball, basketball club, Eilendorfer TV (regional league, district class), a handball club, SV Eilendorf (regional league), a badminton, table tennis, chess club (Mittelrhein Verbandsliga West), all DJK Arminia Eilendorf, the wrestling club RC Eilendorf (state league), pool billiard friends 94 Eilendorf, pool billiard club Blau-Weiß Eilendorf 1975 e. V., the tennis club TC-Eilendorf 1950 e. V., the cycling club RSC Schwalbe 1908 Eilendorf e. V. as well as a branch of TABALiNGO Sport & Kultur integrativ eV (with an inclusive range of vital sports).
In addition, in the Auf dem Foerbrich area is the shooting range of the Aachener Karlsschützengilde , which is also a recognized performance base for the Olympic disciplines in sport shooting .
In the clubhouse on Nirmerstraße there is also the Schützenbruderschaften St. Sebastianus Schützenbruderschaft von 1310 eV and St.Apollonia Eilendorf 1926 eV
which share 2 shooting ranges and a clubhouse.
In the former Saaltheater Geulen at Von-Coels-Straße 183, concerts and other events were held as well as some boxing matches.
