Oleg Kutscherenko

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oleg Nikolajewitsch Kutscherenko (born December 20, 1968 in Krasnyj Lutsch , Lugansk Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Soviet and German wrestler . He became the 1992 Greco-Roman style paperweight Olympic gold medalist for the United Team .

Career

Oleg Kutscherenko came to wrestling as a young student and trained at a performance center in Lugansk from the age of 11. He concentrated on the Greco-Roman style. Even as a junior he was one of the best Soviet wrestlers in paper weight, the weight class that at that time had its weight limit of 48 kg body weight.

Oleg Kutscherenko achieved his first major success on the international wrestling mat at the Junior World Championship (Espoirs) in Burnaby / Canada in 1987 , where he won the paperweight title ahead of Wilber Sánchez from Cuba and Rosario Schmitt from the Federal Republic of Germany . Within two years he then prevailed against his many competitors such as Sergei Suworow , Samuel Danieljan , Natig Aiwasow , Ivan Samtajew and Magyatdin Allachwerdijew among the seniors in the Soviet Union . He started at the European Championships in 1989 in Oulu and came in 3rd place in paper weight. In the semifinals he suffered a shoulder defeat against Markus Scherer from the Federal Republic of Germany after 1:53 minutes .

Oleg Kutscherenko had better luck at the 1989 World Cup in Martigny / Switzerland , because he lost there in the paper weight in his third fight against Andrzej Głąb from Poland , but benefited from the fact that he was defeated by the South Korean Kwan Duk-yong . So he was still the pool winner and in the final beat the Olympic champion from 1988 Jon Rønningen from Norway with 14: 3 techn. Points and was thus world champion .

At the European Championships in 1990 in Poznan , he was used in flyweight. In this weight class, too, he fought his way into the final, in which he was clearly defeated on points against Jon Rønningen . At the 1990 World Cup in Rome , he started again in paper weight and won there over Benazid from Algeria , Dov Groberman from Israel , happily over Wilber Sánchez from Cuba , Andrzej Głąb and in the final also over Olympic champion Vincenzo Maenza from Italy and was thus for the second time World champion .

In 1991 Oleg Kutscherenko was only used at the World Championships in Varna . He started there again in the flyweight and could not prevail again in this weight class. He was defeated in the quarter-finals against the Cuban Raúl Martínez Alemán and finished 5th.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he started again in paper weight for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). He was in excellent form and defeated one after the other Lars Rønningen , Norway, Kwan Duk-yong , South Korea, Masanori Ohashi , Japan , Iliuță Dăscălescu , Romania , Wilber Sánchez (clear with 11: 0 technical points) and in the final Vincenzo Maenza with 3: 0 tech. Points and became an Olympic champion .

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , at the beginning of 1993 Oleg Kutscherenko asked himself how things should go on for him, both athletically and economically. He decided to go to Germany and apply for German citizenship. With the help of old sports friends, he settled in Frankfurt (Oder) and started working for WKG Frankfurt (Oder) / Luckenwalde in 1994 . He then received German citizenship in 1994. After two years he moved to KSV Köllerbach , to which he remained loyal until the end of his wrestling career in 2007. He found his economic basis as a member of the Bundeswehr.

He made his first start for the German team in 1995 at the European Championships in Besançon . There he met his former Russian teammate Zafar Gulijew in his first fight , against whom he, weakened by heavy weight gain, was clearly 1: 6 techn. Lost points. But then he showed excellent fights and defeated Francois Lambert from France , Imre Szarka from Hungary , Bayram Özdemir from Turkey, Fariborz Besarati from Sweden and in the battle for the bronze medal Aljaksandr Paulau from Ukraine , which he won 6-1 techn. Points clearly mastered.

At the 1995 World Cup in Prague it was again Zafar Gulijew who prevented Oleg Kutscherenko from winning a medal. He first defeated Sami Salminen from Finland (10-0), then lost to Gulijew 5: 7 and then defeated Marian Manolescu from Romania 10-0, Wilber Sánchez 9-0, Aljaksandr Paulau 5-0 and Mujaahid Maynard from the United States States with 9: 1 tech. Points. In the battle for the bronze medal, he met Zafar Gulijew again, this time with a clear 0: 6 techn. Was subject to points.

In 1996 Oleg Kutscherenko got the chance to start at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in the paper weight category. He was therefore not optimally prepared, which is reflected in his fights. After a superior victory over Taha Aganasad Saidow from Azerbaijan (10: 0) he lost with a tie of 1: 1 by a referee decision against Wilber Sánchez and then against the North Korean Kang Yong-Gyun and only finished 12th in the final score.

From 1997, a change in weight class decided by the international wrestling federation (FILA) came into force. After this, the paper weight was dropped without replacement and from this point on Oleg Kutscherenko had to fight in the flyweight, whose weight limit from 1997 to 2001 was 54 kg body weight. In Germany, however, Alfred Ter-Mkrtchyan also wrestled in this weight class, contesting this starting place for him. In 1997, however, Oleg Kutscherenko was used at the European Championships in Kouvala . Despite notable victories over Ercan Yıldız from Turkey, Valentin Rebegea from Romania and Natig Aiwasow from Azerbaijan , he only finished 4th there because he was defeated both in the pool and in the battle for the bronze medal against Oleg Nemchenko from Russia.

At the 1998 European Championships in Minsk , Oleg Kutscherenko took 5th place in the flyweight division. There he defeated Petr Svehla from the Czech Republic and Andrij Kalaschnykow from the Ukraine and was defeated by Natig Aiwasow just 2: 3 techn. Points, whereby this defeat was due to the fact that when the score was 2: 2, a referee from a successor state of the USSR issued him an unjustified warning from a German point of view, because he should not have taken the correct position on the ground. So he lost this fight with 2: 3 points. At the 1998 World Cup in Gävle / Sweden he defeated u. a. Shawn Sheldon from the United States, but lost in the quarterfinals just 2: 3 techn. Points against Sim Kwon-ho from South Korea, who also became world champion.

In 2000 and 2001 Oleg Kutscherenko was each CISM military world champion in flyweight. At the 2001 World Cup, however, he only came in 10th place because, after defeating Natig Aiwasow, his next fight against Rachimchan Assembekow from Kazakhstan was just under (2-3) techn. Lost points and thus retired according to the regulations in force at the time.

In 2003 he started for the last time at a European and a world championship. At the European Championships in Belgrade he came in bantamweight, the flyweight had been abolished in 2002, on the 7th place when he lost after winning two fights against Marian Sandu from Romania and at the World Championships this year in Créteil he even came in 29th. Place because he just lost his two fights against Oleg Nemtschenko (1: 3 technical points) and Marian Sandu (3: 4 technical points).

Oleg Kutscherenko won the German championship eight times between 1997 and 2004. After retiring from the international stage, he fought for his club KSV Köllerbach until 2007.
