The competition over 200m breaststroke men at the 2012 Olympics in London was born on 31 July and 1 August 2012 at the London Aquatics Center held. 34 athletes took part.
There were five preliminary runs. The 16 fastest swimmers of all heats qualified for the two semi-finals that were held on the same day. Here too, the finalists qualified by setting the eight fastest times in both semi-finals.

Silver medalist Jamieson not only managed to beat the British record three times in this competition. In the final, he was also faster than the previous Olympic record. It was the third fastest time ever swum over this distance.
