Orange Bowl (American Football)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Orange Bowl is a swept annual championship game in college football , the university's operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in American football in the United States , which takes place every year usually on 1 January.

Last year's championship game was played on December 30, 2019 in front of 65,157 spectators between the Virginia Cavaliers and the Florida Gators and ended 28:36. The kick-off took place at 8 p.m. local time ( EST ), and the game was broadcast live and exclusively on the US sports broadcaster ESPN .

The Orange Bowl is part of the Bowl Championship Series , making it one of the most important bowls in college football. In the 2000/2001 and 2004/2005 seasons it also served as the BCS National Championship Game . The game was played from 1935 to 1995 and 1999 at the Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami and since 1996 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens .

The cup has been sponsored by Capitol One since December 2014 , which is why the official name has been changed to Capital One Orange Bowl . Previous main sponsors were Discover Financial (2011– January 2014) and Federal Express / FedEx (1989–2010).
