Paris in film, opera and literature
The French capital Paris plays an important role in the cultural life of France and a multitude of films, operas and works of literature have as their theme life in this city.
Movie
The film Hôtel du Nord (1938) by Marcel Carné based on the novel of the same name by Eugène Dabit is set in the “Hotel am Canal”. Although the majority of the scenes were not shot in the hotel, the film shows the lifestyle in Paris in the 1930s.
In Funny Face (Funny Face) (1956) by Stanley Donen sings Audrey Hepburn with Fred Astaire in Paris "Bonjour Paree" in front of the Eiffel Tower , on the Champs-Élysées and other places of the city.
In Breathless ( À bout de souffle , 1960) by Jean-Luc Godard Michel (beats Jean-Paul Belmondo ) with small ripoffs through life. He fled to Paris and made friends with a US student. The filming locations were at number 21 rue de Berri near the avenue des Champs-Élysées and on rue Campagne-Première in the Montparnasse district .
Zazie dans le métro (1960) by Louis Malle shows the little girl Zazie visiting Paris. The Eiffel Tower plays an important role in this.
Is Paris on fire? (1966) ( Is Paris burning? , Paris brûle-t-il? ) By René Clément , according to the book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins , for the liberation of Paris from German occupation during the Second World War in August 1944th
In Belle de Jour - Beautiful Day (1967) by Luis Buñuel breaks Catherine Deneuve from the bourgeois of life by pursues prostitution.
In The Last Tango in Paris ( Ultimo tango a Parigi , 1972) by Bernardo Bertolucci , Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider meet by chance while visiting an empty apartment with a view of the “Passy” metro station and the Bir-Hakeim Bridge and catch a destructive one Affair on.
The film The Last Metro ( Le Dernier Métro , 1980) by François Truffaut is set in Paris in 1942 during the German occupation.
In the film Diva (1981) by Jean-Jacques Seeleix , a postman secretly records a concert by his favorite singer. In a collision with a woman the next day, he comes into possession of incriminating evidence and is then pursued by gangsters. The film plays u. a. in places like the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord , Gare Saint-Lazare , Rue de Rivoli and the Concorde metro station .
In Subway (1985) by Luc Besson , several scenes with Christopher Lambert and Isabelle Adjani were filmed in the RER stations “La Défense” and “ Les Halles ”.
Hass ( La Haine , 1995) by Mathieu Kassovitz was mainly filmed in Chanteloup-les-Vignes , a suburb of Paris. The Parisian artistic scene meets regularly in the “Gilbert Brownstone” gallery there.
