The 1967/68 season was the 25th season of the highest Mexican football professional league . The relegated previous season Ciudad Madero was replaced by the promoted CF Pachuca .

Deportivo Toluca was the third club that managed to defend their title in the professional league introduced 25 years earlier. León FC was the first to do this in the 1948/49 season . In the 1960s, the CD Guadalajara succeeded several times , which in the 1967/68 season achieved sixth place, its worst placement in the 15 seasons between 1956/57 and the Torneo México 70 . In the other 14 seasons, the team always managed to place in the top 3. Chivas became champion eight times during this period and three times each one reached second and third place.

With four game days before the end of the season, Toluca had a lead of six points over their two equally point rivals Veracruz and UNAM . With the 3-0 win in direct comparison against UNAM and the simultaneous loss of points by Veracruz (1-1 at Atlas ) on matchday 27, Toluca was already the old and new champions three matchdays before the end.
