Kathrin Röggla (born June 14, 1971 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian writer . She writes prose , radio plays and theater texts.

Life

Röggla studied German and journalism from 1989 onwards at the University of Salzburg and from 1992 in Berlin. Since 1988 she has been active in the literary public, especially in the context of the Salzburg authors' group , the Salzburg literature workshop and the literary magazine erostepost , of which she was an editorial member from 1990 to 1992.

Röggla has been publishing in literary terms since 1990, initially in literary magazines and anthologies . It was published in 1995 for the first time, nobody laughs backwards . Since 1998 she has written and produced radio works (radio plays, acoustic installations, network radio), a. a. for Bayerischer Rundfunk and for the Berlin network radio collective convex tv. Since 2002 she has also been writing for the theater.

According to her own statements, in her texts she often works across media, with documentary procedures, with the means of comedy and irony, experimentally and critically, as well as with the orality of writing. ( Source? )

Her play The Participants was premiered on April 19, 2009 at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. It is a media-critical dramatization of the events after the self-liberation of Natascha Kampusch . Six “expert” figures demonstrate their understanding of public interest, which suddenly goes out when the topicality no longer works. Kampusch proves to be smarter than her "advisors". The staging of Stephen Rottkamp got a standing ovation from the audience.

In May 2012 Röggla was appointed as a new member of the Akademie der Künste in Berlin, which she accepted. Active membership presupposes that artists actively participate in the tasks of the academy so that it will continue to be present in the academy in the future. On May 30, 2015, she was elected as the new Deputy President of the Berlin Academy of the Arts . Since November 2015 she has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry .

In 2014 Röggla received the Saarbrücker Poetics Lecturer for Drama , established by Saarland University , in which she gave three public lectures on her self-image as a playwright and her concept of the theater. In 2015 they appeared under the title The wrong question in print. Subsequently, in December 2014 she was poet in residence at the University of Duisburg-Essen . She dedicated this poetics lectureship to the subject of interpersonal, working milieus, parallel crises and the unredeemed future tense .

Kathrin Röggla has lived in Berlin-Neukölln since 1996 and is married to the actor, translator and director Leopold von Verschuer .
