Rain is a municipality in the Lower Bavarian district of Straubing-Bogen and the seat of the Rain administrative community .

Rain has four districts:

There are the districts Perkam and Rain.

history

Until the 19th century

The main town of Rain developed from a 13th century castle that was built by the Rainer zu Rain family . In 1560, after the Rainer died out, rule passed to the Leubelfinger and in 1783 to the Counts of Königsfeld. The place was part of the Electorate of Bavaria , but formed a closed Hofmark , whose seat was Rain.

In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 . The once wealthy castle estate was divided up in the 19th century.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Dürnhart, which was newly formed on October 1, 1950 from parts of the municipality of Perkam , was incorporated.

Population development

In the period from 1988 to 2019, the municipality grew from 1,773 to 2,880 by 1,107 inhabitants or 62.44%. The community of Rain is growing rapidly due to building areas for single-family houses and immigration from other places, for example young families from Straubing.

This original coat of arms of the Lords of Rain comes from their relatives as an alliance coat of arms , who are on the one hand the Lords of Leublfing (divided three times in front by red and silver) and on the other hand the old Austrian Lords of Graben (two blue diagonal bars in the back in silver).

economy

In addition to agriculture, craft and trade companies are located in the industrial area. There is also part of a propeller manufacturer's operation, MT Propeller Entwicklung GmbH.

Attractions

The local castle contains the remains of the large medieval castle. This was expanded in 1542 in the Renaissance style and extensively changed around 1713. From the central fort there are still three wings, a corner tower and a tall watchtower that was changed in 1561. The outer bailey still shows the position of the demolished corner towers, the palace chapel, built in 1712, was used as a local church for a long time. The castle is partially accessible as a municipal administration and through other commercial uses (bank / restaurant).

The Expositur Church for the Transfiguration of Christ with ornamental windows by Josef Oberberger was inaugurated in 1981. In the towns of Wiesendorf and Dürnhart there are simple Gothic or Baroque village churches.

societies

In the community there is a volunteer fire brigade, a sports club with football, tennis, ski and volleyball, an ice stock club, a pigeon club, a veterans club, a boys club, a fishing club, a billiards club, the fruit and horticultural club, the wind friends Rain and the Catholic rural youth movement .
