Stallwang is located in the Danube Forest region in the front Bavarian Forest . The main town of Stallwang is located in the Kinsach Valley on the western slope of the Gallner (709 m ).

history

Until the church is planted

The settlement took place around the 8th and 9th centuries by the Pfaffenmünster monastery near Steinach. The place was part of the Electorate of Bavaria, but formed a closed Hofmark of the barons of Poissl. The current political community was established in 1818.

Incorporations

The former community of Schönstein was incorporated on January 1, 1972. The main part of the dissolved Landorf municipality was added on January 1, 1977. On May 1, 1978, the eastern part of the former municipality of Zinzenzell was added to the municipality of Stallwang.

The coat of arms of Stallwang shows a horizontal shield, with black deer antlers on gold above and a golden post horn with red strings on blue, divided shield below.

“The upper half of the shield with the deer antlers shows the family coat of arms of the barons of Poißl zu Loifling, who exercised the court rulership and patrimonial jurisdiction in Stallwang from 1756 to 1830. [...] The post horn is reminiscent of the former station of the Thurn and Taxis Reichsposten in Stallwang, then also of the establishment of the Straubing – Stallwang post bus line, the first connection of this type in Lower Bavaria. Since 2007 there has been a community partnership with the Hungarian town of Magyarsarlós near the city of Pécs .

Culture and sights

The parish church of St. Michael dates from the middle of the 18th century. The late medieval tower was raised in the new building. The Straubing artists Mathias Obermayr (carving), Andreas Massinger (carpentry) and JB Scheck (barrel painting) were involved in the high altar, which was made from 1786 to 1789 . The main character represents the Seven Sorrows of Mary . The pulpit from 1803 with evangelist reliefs was created by Fidelis Itelsperger.
