Sant'Angelo is the XI. and in terms of area the smallest rione (district) of Rome . It lies on the left bank of the Tiber , opposite the Tiber Island .

history

The current name of the district comes from the small church of Sant'Angelo in Pescheria . During the imperial era , the area was part of the IX Regio Circus Flaminius , which was named after the circus of the same name . In the area of ​​today's Rione there were also the portico of Octavia and Philip.

In 1555 the ghetto for the Jews of Rome was established here.
