Schmitten is a district of Seelscheid in the municipality of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
Geographical location
Schmitten is to the north of Berg Seelscheid between Lessbach Valley and Frauenstrasse. To the north are the Naafbachtal , to the east the districts of Driesch , Leienhof and Eich .
history
In 1830 Schmitten had 94 inhabitants and was the largest settlement in the municipality at that time. In 1845 the hamlet had 33 Catholic and 53 Protestant residents (86) in 18 houses. In addition, an Oberschmitten was recorded with 21 Protestant residents in three houses. Together they were also the greatest place. Schmitten was also the largest town in 1888, there were 99 residents in 25 houses, Oberschmitten was no longer mentioned separately.
The settlement belonged to the Seelscheid community until 1969.
