Schott (family name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schott is a family name with several possible meanings. It could go back to the medieval name schotte for a roaming peddler (after their common origin from Scotland ). In addition, an origin from Middle High German schotte , quark (from sweet whey) 'is possible, to which the Upper German family names Schöttle and Schöttel also belong. Low German Schöttel, on the other hand, goes back to the local expression for Schüssler .
