The Scottish Football League Second Division was played in 2012/13 for the 38th and last time as the third highest Scottish league . In addition, it was the thirty-eighth edition of the men's third-highest football division in Scotland under the name Second Division . In the 2012/13 season, 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
The championship was won by Queen of the South , which at the same time secured participation in the 2013/14 championship season . On the ascent play-offs took Alloa Athletic , Brechin City and Forfar Athletic in part. In addition to the queens , the runner-up, Alloa Athletic, rose after the play-offs. In the relegation to the remaining for the following League One 2013/14 played the FC East Fife , which was able to successfully prevail. The Albion Rovers , however, had to relegate to League Two . The top scorer with 32 goals was Nicky Clark of Queen of the South.

Relegation
Participants in the relegation games were FC East Fife from this year's Second Division, as well as the three teams from the Third Division , FC Peterhead , FC Queen's Park and the Berwick Rangers . The winners of the first round played in the last round for a place for the following Scottish League One 2013/14 season .
