Sorokino ( Russian Сорокино , German  Groß Skaisgirren , 1938 to 1945 Großschirren , Lithuanian Didieji Skaisgiriai ) is a place in the Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad . It belongs to the municipal self-government unit of the Krasnosnamensk District .

Geographical location

Sorokino is 16 kilometers southwest of the Rajon capital Krasnosnamensk (Lasdehnen / Haselberg) and 20 kilometers northwest of the former district town of Pillkallen (1938 to 1945: Schloßberg, today in Russian: Dobrowolsk). A side road (27K-105) runs through the village and connects Krasnosnamensk via Tolstowo (Löbegallen / Löbenau) with Uslowoje (Rautenberg) . There is no train connection.

history

The village, first mentioned as Skeisegira in 1542, was incorporated into the newly established district of Rautenberg in 1874. This existed until 1945 and was in the Ragnit district (from 1922 Tilsit-Ragnit district ) in the Gumbinnen administrative district of the Prussian province of East Prussia . In 1910 the Groß Skaisgirren manor district had 246 inhabitants.

On September 30, 1928, Groß Skaisgirren gave up its independence and was incorporated into the neighboring municipality of Karohnen (after 1945 initially still in Russian: Korobowo, now no longer existing). For political and ideological reasons to ward off foreign-sounding place names, Groß Skaisgirren was renamed "Großschirren" on June 3rd - officially confirmed on July 16th - of the year 1938. As a result of the war, the place finally came to the Soviet Union in 1945 .

In 1947, the now independent village was given the Russian name "Sorokino" and was assigned to the village Soviet Tolstowski selski Sowet in the Krasnosnamensk Raion at the same time . Later the place came into the Wesnowski selski Sowet . From 2008 to 2015 the place belonged to the rural municipality of Wesnowskoje selskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district of Krasnosnamensk.

church

The population of Groß Skaisgirrens resp. Before 1945 Großschirrens was almost without exception a Protestant denomination. Thus the village was parish in the parish of the church Rautenberg (East Prussia) and integrated into the diocese of Ragnit in the parish of Tilsit-Ragnit within the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . Today Sorokino is in the catchment area of the newly established Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Sabrodino (Lesgewangminnen , 1938 to 1946 Lesgewangen) in the area of the provost of Kaliningrad (Königsberg) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia .
