Kiss

The centrally located district formerly known as Kussen was first mentioned as Cussey in 1539. As a church village it was of particular importance for the region. The place was considered the village with the most beautiful trees in East Prussia . The mightiest maple tree in the province stood not far from the church . Its crown was 28 meters in diameter with a trunk circumference of four meters. In the parish and manor gardens one saw an ancient oak and 100-year-old linden trees, the thickest of which had a trunk circumference of 4.80 meters.

Kussen was a large farming village ten kilometers from the former district town of Pillkallen (1938 to 1946: Schloßberg, today in Russian: Dobrowolsk). Between 1874 and 1945 it was the seat and its name to an administrative district in the county Pillkallen in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia .

In 1910 there were 647 registered residents in the rural community of Kussen and 86 in the Kussen manor. Both merged on September 30, 1928. The number of inhabitants was 683 in 1933 and 662 in 1939. As a result of the war, Kussen was incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1945 with all of northern East Prussia .

District of Kussen (1874–1945)

When it was established, the Kussen district comprised nine parishes, at the end of the day there were seven:

Bruszen / Kiesfelde

The district called Bruszen at the time is located nine kilometers from the district town of Pillkallen (Schloßberg) and south-east of Kussen . In the same year as Kussen, the place was first mentioned in 1539. Before 1945, there was a widely dispersed lying small village 1874-1945 for District Kussen in county Pillkallen belonged (1939-1945 "County Schlossberg (East Prussia)."). 220 inhabitants were registered in Bruszen in 1910. Their number decreased to 202 by 1933 and was still 208 in 1939. On June 3 - officially confirmed on July 16 - of the year 1938, Bruszen (from 1936: "Bruschen") was given the name for political and ideological reasons to ward off foreign-sounding place names Name "Kiesfelde". In 1945 it came to the Soviet Union .

Urblaugken / vacation

Before 1945, the smallest village in today's four districts of Kussens was Urblaugken . From here it was 12 kilometers to Pillkallen (Schloßberg). Also Urblaugken was from 1874 to 1945 in the District incorporated Kussen and therefore part of the circle Pillkallen in the province of East Prussia . In 1910 56 people lived in the village. In 1933 there were the same number, and in 1939 there were 47. In 1938 Urblaugken was renamed and was henceforth called “Urlau”. In 1945 this village also came to the Soviet Union .

Wassantkehmen / Wildnisrode

Twelve kilometers away from Pillkallen and only a few hundred meters southwest of Kussen is the district of Kussen, once known as Wassantkehmen . His first mention was in 1558. Before 1945 it consisted of only a few small farms and was also from 1874 to 1945 in the District Kussen in county Pillkallen incorporated (Schlossberg). In 1910 there were 64 residents in Wassantkehmen. Their number was only 54 in 1933 and rose to 61 by 1939. Renamed in 1938 to "Wildnisrode" , the place was also assigned to the Soviet Union in 1945 .

Wesnowo

After the conquest of East Prussia at the end of World War II , Kussen and Bruszen (Kiesfelde), Urblaugken (vacation) and Wassantkehmen (Wildnisrode) were incorporated into the Soviet Union . In 1947 Kussen was renamed Wesnovo . At the same time the place became the seat of a village soviet in Krasnosnamensk Raion . From 2008 to 2015, Wesnowo was the seat of a rural municipality and has belonged to the Krasnosnamensk district ever since.

In the local directory of the Kaliningrad Oblast from 1976, the former German places Urblaugken / Urlau, Wassantkehmen / Wildnisrode and Bruszen / Kiesfelde are also counted as Wesnowo, although in the case of Bruszen / Kiesfelde, only those northwest of the actual place belonging to Bruszen / Kiesfelde may be Street to Kussen, individual farms were meant, since the place Bruszen / Kiesfelde was possibly classified as "Bridschen", in Russian then Krasnoretschenskoje, in the Rajon Nesterow and the local office is also located in this Rajon today. In any case, all these places are now deserted.

A first church existed in Kussen since the mid-16th century. This was replaced by a new building in 1743 on the instructions of the Prussian King Frederick the Great . Field stones were used for the masonry , the roof was covered with tiles, the tower was built of wood. The church survived the Second World War without damage. During the Soviet era the church was used as a warehouse. During this time the tower was lost. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the building remained unused and fell into disrepair. The roof fell into disrepair between 1992 and 2008, and the remaining gable wall collapsed between 2008 and 2016.

Parish

The Protestant parish was founded in 1586 and initially belonged to the Insterburg Inspection (today in Russian: Tschernjachowsk). Until 1945 she was then part of the church district Pillkallen (Schloßberg) within the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . The extensive parish with its 34 towns, villages and living spaces counted 5,500 parishioners in 1925. Flight and expulsion of the local population as well as the anti-church policy of the Soviet Union brought church life in Wesnowo to a standstill. Today the place is in the catchment area of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation of the Salzburg Church in Gussew (Gumbinnen) within the provost of Kaliningrad (Königsberg) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia , based in Moscow .
