Kreuzstetten is a market town with 1535 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Mistelbach district in Lower Austria .
geography
Kreuzstetten is located in the Weinviertel on the northern edge of the Kreut Valley. The area of the market town covers 24.29 square kilometers. 16.43 percent of the area is forested. The Hautzendorfer Bach flows through the municipality, which flows into the Rußbach east of Unterolberndorf .
Community structure
The municipality includes the following three localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):
- Niederkreuzstetten (960) with the new Kreuzstetten building
- Oberkreuzstetten (398)
- Streifing (177)
The community consists of the cadastral communities of Niederkreuzstetten, Oberkreuzstetten and Streifing.
The districts of Niederkreuzstetten and Oberkreuzstetten are laid out as Angerdörfer , Niederkreuzstetten with street village-like extensions. The Streifing district is a loosely built-up village .
Kreuzstetten is one of the nine member communities of the region around Wolkersdorf , a small region around the city of Wolkersdorf in the Weinviertel .
Neighboring communities
history
Kreuzstetten was already settled in the Neolithic , the Bronze Age and the Latène Age. The place was first mentioned in 1125, as a market in 1664.
In the first half of the 20th century, Kreuzstetten developed into a summer resort .
In the last days of the Second World War , on April 17, 1945, fighting took place in Niederkreuzstetten between troops of the Wehrmacht and the Red Army , with five buildings, including the elementary school, being destroyed by fire. Six civilians were also killed and three bridges blown up. Three civilians were killed in Oberkreuzstetten.
On January 25, 2007, the St. Jakob parish in Niederkreuzstetten celebrated its 800th anniversary.

Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1499 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1353 inhabitants, in 1981 1159 and in 1971 1203 inhabitants.

- Niederkreuzstetten Castle : The castle, which is surrounded by a park, was first mentioned as a castle in 1265. Its oldest component today, the west wing, dates from the 16th century.

economy
In 2001 there were 47 non-agricultural workplaces, and there were 51 in agriculture and forestry according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at home was 661. In 2001, the activity rate was 45.36 percent.

- Train: In the district of Neubau there is a train station of the Laaer Ostbahn with a listed reception building.
safety
- There are three volunteer fire departments in the community : in Niederkreuzstetten, Oberkreuzstetten and Streifing. The primary school building in Kreuzstetten was opened in 1969 and renovated from 2018 to 2019.
