action

The film begins with a look back at the time between the second and third films, nine years before the actual plot begins. Woody and his friends watch as Andy's little sister gives away porcelain as a gift. Woody has the choice to go with her, but ultimately decides against it because he is Andy's favorite toy and his disappearance would make him sad.

Cowboy Woody and his friends now live with little Bonnie . Bonnie prefers to play with the others and Woody ends up in the closet with the older toys. When he accompanies Bonnie to preschool without permission because she is scared, he happens to help her make a new toy called Forky. Forky is made of trash and has to get used to its existence as a toy. He's constantly trying to put himself in the trash, seeing himself as trash and not as a toy.

On a family outing, Woody and Forky are separated from the others before the next rest stop. On the way back to the others, Woody explains to Forky why he is so important to Bonnie and Bonnie finally recognizes his true destiny.

The two of them pass an antique shop where Woody sees a lamp he knows, namely the one from Porzellinchen. Hoping to find her there, the two enter the shop, but instead meet a toy doll named Gabby. Since her pull-up box is broken, she wants to replace it with Woody's so that she can finally be whole and be taken away by the owner's granddaughter. Woody manages to flee from her and the henchmen, but Forky stays behind.

Meanwhile, Buzz Lightyear sets out to find Woody and Forky. When he ends up by detours to a shooting range at the fair near the rest area, he meets Ducky and Bunny, who are ready to help him, in exchange he takes them to Bonnie.

Woody is now on the way to the rest area because he needs the help of the other toys. He gets lost in a playground with lots of lost toys, where he is surprisingly saved by Porzellinchen, her three sheep and Giggle McDimples. You are ready to help him and so you are on your way.

On the roof they also meet Buzz and the two new friends. Inside the store, they are looking for a toy called Duke Caboom because they need his help to avoid the owner's cat.

Their rescue attempt fails because Gabby learns of Woody's loyalty through a conversation with Forky and sets a trap for the group. After they could just escape, Woody separates from the group and returns to Gabby, where he offers her his wind-up box in exchange for Forky.

She keeps her promise, but she is rejected by her granddaughter. Woody offers to join him and Forky. Shortly afterwards, Porzellinchen joins them with the others, who has turned back again for Woody.

On the way to the trailer, Gabby separates from the group when she sees a lost girl and decides to stay with her. Meanwhile, Buzz and Jessie and the other toys were able to use various actions and sabotages to guide the caravan to the fair, where they want to collect the others.

While Woody is torn between Bonnie and Porzellinchen, Buzz assures him that Bonnie will make it without his help, and he says goodbye to the other toys he's been with since he was with Andy. He stays at the fair with Porzellinchen, the sheep, Giggle, Duke Caboom, Ducky and Bunny, where you can see in the credits how they help other toys to find new owners.

The German spokesman for Charlie Naseweis, Hartmut Neugebauer , passed away in June 2017. Michael Rüth , who gave Specki his voice in all three films, retired in 2014. Michi Beck, who ultimately speaks Duke Caboom in the film, was originally asked for the character duo Bunny and Ducky together with Smudo . Due to contractual obligations of Smudo, this occupation did not come about. Pierre Peters-Arnolds was responsible for the dubbing direction and the dubbing . The synchronization was done at FFS Munich.
