The tower hill castle Haselberg is the ruin of a tower hill castle (Motte) on the western edge of the Haselberg at 480 m above sea level. NHN above the Schellerbach in the Strahlfeld district of the town of Roding in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham in Bavaria .
history
The beginning of the moth could be before 1100 and its abandonment probably took place as early as the 13th century. Presumably the Motte, which could also have been a forerunner of the nearby Schwärzenberg Castle , was a border castle and seat of an unknown ministerial family of the Bamberg Monastery .
description
The Motte is an almost square castle complex with an inner surface of 22 by 23 meters with rounded corners, presumably a donjon that served as a keep and residential tower . The system with external water supply was protected by a 7.5 to 10 meter wide and up to 3 meter deep trench , which was preceded by an outer wall on the slope side. Traces in the interior indicate an edge wall with a wall. Today the complex still shows significant remains that are now heavily overgrown. The Burgplatz is now a ground monument .
