The Postal Liebenstein is a Outbound hilltop castle on a hilltop in the district at the old castle hill in the district Liebenstein the city of Bad Kötzting in Upper Palatinate district of Cham in Bavaria .

Geographical location

The former castle complex is located in the northern part of the Bavarian Forest , on a rocky hilltop , the so-called "Old Castle Hill", which slopes steeply on all sides . It is an elevation in front of the Hohlbeerberg to the northeast, which forms the easternmost branch of the Haidstein, on whose highest peak the Burgstall Haidstein is located. The hilltop rises to 584  m above sea level. NHN and is about 70 meters above the eastern valley of the Brücklbach. The location of the castle stable is about 350 meters northwest of the village of Liebenstein, or about 12 kilometers east of the center of Cham .

In addition to the castle stables on the Haidstein, there are other former medieval fortifications in the vicinity: a few kilometers northeast of the Lichteneck castle , the castle stables on the Hohen Bogen and the tower at the Aignhof . To the south-southeast is a castle stable in the village of Haus and to the west is the extensive Runding castle ruins .

history

The hilltop castle was probably built around 1150 by the Diepolding family of ministers von Liebenstein, of which a Kuno and Rubert von Liebenstein can be traced between 1170 and 1200. In 1204 the castle with the Diepolding inheritance went to the Wittelsbach family . But it was not until 1320 that a H. Sattelboger von Liebenstein was found to be a fiefdom holder .

In 1381 the castle was confiscated because of robberies with the Offenhaus declaration by Heinrich and Albrecht Sattelboger against Duke Albrecht I of Lower Bavaria-Straubing-Holland and then came to the Chamerauer and Donnersteiner.

In 1452 the castle, which was destroyed in the Hussite Wars , was given to the Viechtach judge Stefan Winkler and rebuilt. From 1483 the castle changed hands several times. In 1518 Heinrich VI bought The castle in Wernberg on Runding is in need, which was presumably given up soon after the purchase and served as a quarry.

The easily recognizable small two-part castle stables still show little remains and is now a ground monument .
