The US Highway 212 (also US Route 212 ) is a highway in the Midwest of the United States , by the Greater Minneapolis-Saint Paul in Minnesota leads and to the west in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming ends. The road crosses the US states of South Dakota and Montana . The total length is 1527 km. US Highway 212 opened in 1926.

Route

US Highway 212 was originally a southern offshoot of US Highway 12 . It started earlier as a junction of US Highway 12 in Saint Paul . Today, its eastern end forms a junction from Minnesota State Highway 62 east of the junction with US Highway 169 in the urban area of Edina .

US Highway 212 runs mostly in a westerly direction. It crosses in Eden Prairie to Interstate 494 . The highway passes through Norwood Young America , Glencoe , Brownton and Hector . US Highway 71 crosses the road at Olivia . The highway runs between Granite Falls and Montevideo along the Minnesota River . US Highway 59 crosses the street near Montevideo . US Highway 212 continues its course west. It passes the village Dawson , crossing south of Madison to US Highway 75 . US Highway 212 crosses the border into South Dakota . In the small town of Watertown, he crosses Interstate 29 and shortly afterwards US Highway 81 . Later, at Redfield , US Highway 212 crosses US Highway 281 . West of Gettysburg is the intersection with US Highway 83 . US Highway 212 crosses the Missouri River dammed up to Lake Oahe near Forest City . In South Dakota, the highway passes Newell and Belle Fourche . At Belle Fourche, US Highway 85 crosses US Highway 212. This now runs in a west-northwest direction and about 30 km through the extreme northeast of the state of Wyoming before reaching southeast of Montana. This bypasses the city center of Billings to the south. At Laurel, US Highway 212 separates from Interstate 90 and now runs south. At Rockvale the US Highway 310 branches off to the south, while the US Highway 212 leads in a south-westerly direction along Rock Creek to Red Lodge . The highway crosses the Beartooth Mountains south of Red Lodge . The section of road from Red Lodge to Cooke City is also called the Beartooth Highway . The highest point of the route is at 3336  m at the Beartooth Pass . The Beartooth Highway is only open between May and October due to heavy winter snowfall. US Highway 212 reaches the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park. It runs just under 45 km within the national park and ends in the north of the national park in the Lamar Valley at the Tower Junction intersection .
