The Wellier Loop / Landesbergen barrage is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Estorf and Landesbergen in the Central Weser municipality , in the Liebenau municipality in the Liebenau joint municipality and the Steyerberg district in the Nienburg / Weser district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 177 is 278 hectares . Most of it is part of the EU bird sanctuary "Wesertalaue bei Landesbergen". A small part is also part of the FFH area “pond bat waters in the Nienburg area”.
The nature reserve is located east of Wellie , south of Liebenau and northwest of Landesbergen. It places the Wellier Loop, an oxbow river of the Weser , which was created by the construction of the Landesbergen barrage in 1959/1960, and its bank area and the area between the oxbow lake and the Weser under protection. Part of the island between the lock and weir of the barrage is included in the nature reserve. The Wellier Loop is separated from the Weser above the weir. There is a connection below the weir via a threshold.
The protection is primarily used to maintain and develop the near-natural ecosystem of the Wellier Loop with its bank area. Most of the lands included in the nature reserve are used for arable farming. There are two former gravel pits in the reserve that are connected to the Wellier Loop. Grassland areas border on these pits.
The area has been a nature reserve since April 11, 1996. It is looked after by the Nienburger Kreisverband des Naturschutzbund Germany . The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Nienburg / Weser.
