Yucatán Cup
The Yucatán Cup ( Spanish : Copa Mundial Juvenil Yucatán ) is a world junior tennis tournament that has been held by the International Tennis Federation since 1987 and takes place every November or December in the Mexican city of Mérida . Together with the Trofeo Bonfiglio , the Banana Bowl , the Osaka Mayor's Cup and the Orange Bowl , the tournament is part of the internationally significant series of Grade A tournaments and, together with the junior competitions of the four Grand Slam tournaments, is one of the world's most important tennis tournaments for juniors.
history
Held for the first time in 1987, the tournament was temporarily moved to clay in 1995, before returning to hard court in 2000. In 2013 it was decided to switch to clay court again. After the competition had already belonged to the highest junior tournament class for one year in 2002, the tournament took over the Grade A license of Abierto Juvenil Mexicano in 2018 .
Winners list
Many of the winners of the Yucatán Cup then made it to the top of the world in women's and men's tennis. The notable winners in singles and doubles include the Grand Slam winners Andy Roddick , Marin Čilić , Marion Bartoli and Bianca Andreescu , but also other long-standing international top athletes such as Wera Swonarjowa , Agnieszka Radwańska and Dominic Thiem .
