history

Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave)

The village, founded by Transylvanian Saxons , was first mentioned in documents in 1323.

For many centuries, the Saxons formed the majority of the population. From around the 18th century Romanians began to settle. In the 1960s there were about as many Saxons as Romanians in the village.

Already during the socialist period , but especially after the political change of 1989 in Romania , the majority of the German-speaking population emigrated to the Federal Republic of Germany .

The "Battle of Schellenberg"

The place gained historical importance through the Battle of Schellenberg , in which Mihai Viteazul ( Michael the Brave ) was able to achieve a victory against Andreas Báthory as an ally of the Habsburgs on October 18, 1599 .

Subsequently, Mihai Viteazul was able to temporarily unite Transylvania, Wallachia and Moldova . Large parts of Romanian historians attach particular importance to these events.
