The Axis of the Good , founded in 2004, is a political blog edited by Henryk M. Broder and Dirk Maxeiner .

Name and self-classification

The designation axis of good is an allusion to the political slogan axis of evil coined by US President George W. Bush . The operators describe the topics and focus of the blog as follows:

“The axis of the good offers space for independent thinking. Your authors love freedom and appreciate the values of the Enlightenment. They try to get to the bottom of popular myths and are skeptical of ideologies. The topics of the weblog range from politics, economy and science to popular culture, travel reports and everyday adventures. "

reception

In 2005, the later co-author Hannes Stein characterized The Axis of the Good as the “ central star ” of a “liberal parallel universe” that is close to US neoconservatism . While Philipp Dudek had certified the medium in the Taz 2005 that it was “ forming a solid, liberal counter-public on the Internet”, Taz author Christoph Baumgarten wrote in 2016 that the website was “turned sharply to the right”. Sabine Pamperrien described the blog in the Berliner Zeitung as “the most influential German author's blog”, whose authors spoke out against “USA bashing, criticism of capitalism, climate hysteria and false tolerance towards Islam”. In 2009, Lorenz Jäger commented in the FAZ that the authors were committed to “the concerns of the American neocons”. "Quite rabid anti-Islamism " stands next to numerous statements skeptical about climate change . And in an essay on the subject of Islamophobia, Sabine Schiffer classified the blog as an “anti-Islamic” website in 2010.

Philipp von Brandenstein wrote in MiGAZIN in 2013 that the blog had "shifted to the far right" and was "no longer a liberal portal". As part of his anthology chapter on counter- public opinion in business journalism, the author Lutz Frühbrodt located The Axis of the Good 2017 “on the side of the political right ”. The blog is "above all criticizing Islam, the left and the (also supposedly left) media". Economic policy only plays a subordinate role, "although the articles mostly have a market-economy, sometimes market-radical attitude".

In June 2018, Chaim Noll demanded the Federal Cross of Merit for Henryk Broder on the grounds: “What impression would this country make without Broder and the“ AXIS OF GOOD ”he founded? That of a gradual silencing, a creeping banalization. For preventing it, he deserves the Federal Cross of Merit. "

The Higher Regional Court Dresden rejected in May 2020 injunction proceedings filed a lawsuit against Broders Claudia Roth from, who had accused him of its business model is based "on incitement and false allegations". This is a permissible expression of opinion and not a statement of fact. Roth's statement in an interview with Augsburger Allgemeine had a “true core of the facts”, after Broder Roth had described, among other things, “quintals of stupidity made flesh”, even if he “claimed the privilege of a merely“ colorful representation ”for himself” . However, a main proceeding could still be sought.

Cooperations

At least since the end of 2009 there has been a link to the blog “current articles from NovoArgumente ”. The founders Maxeiner and Miersch as well as authors like Vince Ebert , Walter Krämer and Vera Lengsfeld also write for NovoArgumente . In addition, The Axis of the Good has long maintained a close cooperation with the Swiss weekly magazine Die Weltwoche . Henryk M. Broder, Dirk Maxeiner and Michael Miersch were also Weltwoche authors.

Authors

(Permanent) guest authors are:

Other authors who have already published articles on the "Axis":

In their weblog, the authors also refer to third-party articles, blog posts, television programs and YouTube videos.

In August 2008, the German journalist Alan Posener joined as an author. After disputes with the three operators, Posener left the company in the summer of 2009.

Akif Pirinçci was a regular writer from 2012 to 2013 . In 2013, there was an outward conflict and a heated debate with Axis author Tobias Kaufmann about a polarizing blog entry by Pirinçci.

On January 20, 2015, Michael Miersch said goodbye to the group of authors and editors of the blog, as the expressed opinion of some other authors and many readers - including on the question of how the role of the Pegida movement should be assessed - was too far away from his own positions. According to a declaration by the axis publisher on January 22nd, 2015, Miersch will continue to "remain a partner and co-owner of the axis in order to participate in the future of the blog". In the meantime, however, Miersch has also left the "Axis" as a partner.
