history

prehistory

Archaeological finds from the area around the village go back to the Paleolithic Age . In 2003 the department “ Archeology and History of the Roman Provinces ” (today: Institute for Archaeological Sciences ) of the Frankfurt Johann Wolfgang Goethe University carried out an archaeological excavation in the north of the Astheim district . The remains of a Roman Burgus near the Schwarzbach estuary into the Rhine were uncovered, as well as Alemannic and Frankish graves. The finds and findings as a whole can be dated to a period from the middle of the 1st century to the 7th century and show that the Astheim district was settled during this time.

middle Ages

Parish Church of St. Peter in Chains

The existence of the village is under the name Askemuntesheim since 830 to 850 in the Lorsch Codex as a possession of the monastery Lorsch also documented occupied. In the centuries that followed, Astheim was given the place names Astehem (1099), Astheim (1239), Astheym (1331), Astumb (1579), Astum (1647) and Astheim (1675).

In the 12th century the property was owned by St. Maria ad Gradus , further property since 1282 in the possession of the Poor Clare monastery Reichklara , both in Mainz .

At the end of the Middle Ages , sovereignty over the village lay jointly with Kurmainz and the lords and counts of Hanau . In Kurmainz it belonged to the lower archbishopric and under the offices of the cathedral chapter to the cathedral mechanic office in Mainz.

In 1486, Landgrave Wilhelm I of Hesse bought 100 acres of fields in Astheim, Bauschheim and Trebur. The resulting domain comprised around 100 acres of fields and 35 “Gemansmat” meadows. In 1579 it was exchanged for the Archbishop of Mainz.

Early modern age

In 1527 Count Philipp III. von Hanau-Lichtenberg his rights in Astheim and other rights with Elector Ludwig V of the Palatinate against half of the village Altheim , which is assigned to the Hanau office of Babenhausen . According to another source, Count Philip III. This year Astheim as a fiefdom of the "Camberg" monastery - probably meant the Comburg monastery .

The Mainz Propstei St. Jakobsberg and the local monastery St. Maria ad Gradus held the big tithe since 1571 . The Landgrave of Hesse received the tithe of seven acres of fields.

In 1745 the district comprised 2,180 acres. Of these, 488 acres belong to the cathedral dean, 369 acres to Reichklara, 46 acres to St. Jakobsberg and 43 acres to the parish. In 1781 the University of Mainz took possession of the estates of the abolished Altmünster , Reichklara and Kartause monasteries . In 1782 the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt took possession of the monastery property.

Modern times

After secularization , Astheim was added to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . There it belonged to the Rüsselsheim office until 1820 , which from 1816 belonged to the Starkenburg province . In 1821 district districts were introduced in the Grand Duchy and Astheim was allocated to the district of Dornberg .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Astheim in 1829:

»Astheim (L. Bez. Dornberg) cath. Parish village; is located on the Schwarzbach 1 34 St. von Dornberg, very close to Trebur, and has 112 houses and 787 inhabitants, up to 10 Luth. 1 reform. and 15 Jews. are all catholic. The place in which the Lorsch monastery was well-off used to appear under the name Askemuntesheim . The patronage was still owned by the Kamberg monastery (Würzburg diocese) and the Liebfrauenstift in Mainz in 1307; the first share came afterwards to the monastery on the Jacobsberg at Mainz. The Vogtei, Atzung and Beede had, in 1467, Count Philipp von Katzenellenbogen and Count Philipp zu Hanau in community. In 1486 bought Landgraf Wilhelm the Younger Peter von Fürstenberg's goods, including 1 / 4 belonged to the court at the place around 1300 fl. But in 1579, leaving Hessen all high and low authority over Astheim, so how about Dudenhofen, at Churchill Mainz, against the Mainz rights and inclines in Stockstadt and Wolfskehlen. In 1802 the town came from Mainz to Hesse. "

In 1832 the units were enlarged one more time and circles were created. As a result, Astheim came to the Groß-Gerau district . The provinces, the counties and the administrative districts of the Grand Duchy were abolished on July 31, 1848 and replaced by administrative districts, but this was reversed on May 12, 1852. As a result, Astheim belonged to the Darmstadt administrative district between 1848 and 1852 before the Groß-Gerau district was again responsible for the higher-level administration. The place remained there until today through all further administrative reforms. The responsible jurisdiction was during the affiliation to Hesse, from 1821 to 1879 the district court Großgerau and since 1879 the district court Groß-Gerau emerged from it .

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipalities of Astheim, Geinsheim , Hessenaue and Trebur were merged into one municipality with the name Trebur on January 1, 1977 by the law to reorganize the district of Groß-Gerau . Local districts according to the Hessian municipal code were not established.
