Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The Bünde (Westphalia) station - Bünde (Westf) for short - in the East Westphalian town of Bünde in the Herford district is on the Löhne – Rheine railway line , from which the Herford-Bassum railway to Rahden branches off.
history
The main line was opened in 1856 between Löhne and Rheine as part of the Hanover West Railway. The line to Rahden - Sulingen - Bassum followed in 1899/1901 .
Until June 1994, direct trains ran to Bremen via this route . There are no plans to reactivate the disused section in Lower Saxony .
The station sign reads Bünde (Westf.) - The Cigar City . It is a reminder that Bünde was once the center of the European tobacco industry. Around the station there were once industrial companies in the tobacco industry that were supplied with wood for the tobacco boxes and, of course, tobacco by rail freight and, conversely, also ensured the transport of the end products by rail.
Not a single one of these tobacco factories exists in the immediate vicinity of the train station. The only indication of this time is the imposing tobacco store nearby, which was one of the many warehouses near the train station. Every year the tobacco store takes place here between the train station and the tobacco store as well as on the station forecourt .
Modernization by 2019
In June 2008, Deutsche Bahn announced a comprehensive renovation of the station that would begin around 2011. The costs of 7.47 million euros were shared by Deutsche Bahn AG , the federal government and the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia. Work began in March 2015. The platforms were raised (76 cm above the top of the rails) to enable barrier-free boarding of trains. The station underpass including two elevators was rebuilt. The platforms have been repaved. The roof over the platforms was renewed and modern digital billboards were installed.
Station complex
The station has three platform tracks, which are numbered from 2 to 4, as the former track 1 was not intended for passenger traffic. The track has now been abandoned; only the track bed and a track separated from the passenger platform give an idea of the location of the former track 1. The loading track ends at the eastern part of the station and was accessible via a platform with an attached warehouse to the south and directly adjacent to the reception building. The warehouse has loading ramps for trucks on its south side and is now used for a restaurant and a decoration shop. With the demolition of track 1, further shunting and siding in the eastern apron of the station as well as some loading ramps were abandoned. This created space for a park-and-ride area east of the main station building. The loading tracks that connect the premises of Miele, formerly Imperial , and other companies in Ennigloh , north of the train station, with the tracks of Deutsche Bahn AG are also no longer available. Until 2016 there was only one connecting track to a building materials trade, which was dismantled in 2017. Formerly there was also a northern platform 5, which, however, was also not intended for people to get on and off.
In the freight station to the east, only tracks 19, 20 and 21 are available as sidings. The former loading street was bought by the city of Bünde and is now built on with commercial operations.
service
The station is in the long-distance passenger traffic every four hours from the IC line 77 Amsterdam - Osnabrück - Hannover - Wolfsburg - Berlin served.
In rail transport more run regional express - and regional train -lines:
Local transport tariffs
The city of Bünde belongs to the regional tariff association “ Westfalentarif ”, and the NRW tariff also applies.
The DB local transport tariff applies in the direction of Osnabrück , but not for the Osnabrück – Rheine section, including the Osnabrück city bus network (the NRW tariff applies here). The Lower Saxony ticket can also be used on the Rheine – Osnabrück – Minden route (not valid to Rahden).
Transport links
From the central bus station next to the train ride local buses to Herford and Enger from. Other buses or dial-a-bus services serve Hüllhorst , Kirchlengern , Spenge and Rödinghausen . City buses on line 2 Ennigloh Süd – Bahnhof – Bustreff at Museumsplatz – Südlengern stop in front of the station building .
At the station there is a park and ride space for over 300 vehicles and a bicycle parking garage . The Radfernwege BahnRadRoute Weser-Lippe and Else-Werre bike trail run at or near the station over.
service
In the train station there is a DB travel center , a newspaper shop , a restaurant and a second-hand shop . The directly adjoining eastern warehouse on the former platform 1 houses another gastronomic facility as well as a shop for furniture and decorative items. Only platform 2 is accessible without steps, the station is not yet designed to be handicapped accessible . Access to platforms 3 and 4 can only be reached through a tunnel. Most of the platforms are covered.
The bicycle station was opened in 1999 and offers space for almost 300 bicycles. Access to the bike station is via an electronic access control. Access is possible around the clock. The bicycle station was placed right next to the so-called arcade house, the western part of the station building. This part housed a bike shop, which also operated the bike station. The arcade house was burned out and was saved from the planned demolition by the renovation and opening of the bike shop and bike station. For the design of the bike station, the architect Ulrich Recker ( Westerstede ) received the Leon Battista Alberti Medal of Architecture from the jury of the Tiled Roof Working Group in 2000 for the successful integration into urban development.
