Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The Mettmann Stadtwald Station is a train station and one of three rail Keep in Westphalia North Rhine- city Mettmann . The Mettmann Zentrum stop is 500 m further west . The Mettmann Stadtwald station was opened on September 15, 1879.
history
The station was put into operation on September 15, 1879 together with the railway line by Deutsche Bahn. In 1998 Regiobahn GmbH took over the Düsseldorf-Gerresheim - Dornap-Hahnenfurth section from Deutsche Bahn . Since then it has been running the route with the S 28 to Mettmann Stadtwald, the extension of the route via Hahnenfurth (to Wuppertal), Dornap (to Wülfrath), Wuppertal-Vohwinkel to Wuppertal Hbf is under construction.
The station was opened in 1879 under the name Mettmann . In 1999, during the commissioning of the S-Bahn traffic on the Düsseldorf-Derendorf-Dortmund Süd railway line , the Mettmann stop was renamed Mettmann Stadtwald . The reason for this was that the Mettmann West stop was opened as early as 1953 about 500 m west, near the Mettmann city center . In the course of the construction of the S-Bahn, it was relocated to the west and equipped with the latest equipment, especially elevators. Today it is called Mettmann Zentrum and is within walking distance of the city center. In the course of this renaming, the Mettmann station was given the name Mettmann Stadtwald so that it could be better distinguished from the Mettmann Zentrum stop .
At the same time, the Mettmann Stadtwald train station was made barrier-free. In front of it is a large P + R parking lot together with a bus stop, from which numerous Rheinbahn lines run to all Mettmann districts as well as to Wülfrath , Ratingen , Haan , Wuppertal and Velbert . At the station there is a parking facility for the Regiobahn and a modern car hall in which the trains are serviced. The listed former station building is still there and is now privately owned.
service
In 1998 Regiobahn GmbH took over the Düsseldorf-Gerresheim - Dornap-Hahnenfurth section from Deutsche Bahn . The S 28 line starts at Mettmann Stadtwald station , but is to be extended to Wuppertal by 2020.

Expansion of the S-Bahn to Wuppertal
The S 28 is currently being expanded to Wuppertal. In front of the Dornap-Hahnenfurth train station, it is to be guided over a new line north of the Dornap lime works and then in the area of the old Dornap train station - this is at the level of Ladestrasse and should not be confused with Dornap-Hahnenfurth - into the S9 railway line . Shortly before the threading, the Hahnenfurth-Düssel S-Bahn stop is to be built, which will open up Dornap and Wülfrath-Düssel . Construction work began on December 19, 2013. The start of train operations to and from Wuppertal is planned for December 2020 after delays.
