The Haan-Gruiten train station (until December 9, 2017 Gruiten ) is one of two rail stops in the Bergisch town of Haan , along with the Haan stop . It is a point of contact because the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld and Cologne-Deutz – Haan-Gruiten routes run through it separately. East of the train station they lead on a common route to the Linden junction , where the actual start of the Haan-Gruiten – Köln-Deutz railway line is. To the west of the platforms, the routes run separately to the west and south.
history
The station on the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld line was opened on September 3, 1841 and, under the name of Haan , was the only station for Haan for many years. In 1867 the line to Cologne was completed and in 1907 the current Haaner train station was opened, so that the station of the former community of Gruiten was renamed Gruiten . The station building , which still exists today, was built in 1909 . From 1930 to 1952 a trolleybus line to Mettmann began in front of the station building .
In the course of the S-Bahn opening in 1988, the Gruitener Bahnhof was significantly rebuilt. The platform on track 1 was dismantled and the ramps for loading lime were demolished. A large P&R parking lot was created for this. Tracks 2 and 3 have been moved; the S-Bahn stops here today. Track 4 is the passing track for the route to Cologne. The platform for trains to Cologne and Wuppertal is located on tracks 5 and 6. Track 7 is used as a passing track for freight trains.
Situation today
The station is served by the Rhein-Wupper-Bahn (RB 48) and the S-Bahn lines 8 and - during rush hour - 68 of the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn . The reception building was completely renovated in the 1990s; it currently houses a restaurant and the Gruiten city library.
There is a taxi stand and a bus stop on the forecourt of the train station, where buses to Mettmann , Haan and Wülfrath leave. The bus stop is named Haan-Gruiten . At the moment the platforms are not barrier-free , and the S-Bahn platform is approx. 20 cm too high for the vehicles on the S 8 line. The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr announced in February 2016 that as part of the modernization offensive 3 (MOF 3), which was co-financed by the federal and state governments, it was planned to retrofit the station with elevators by 2023 at the latest, lower the S-Bahn platform appropriately and modernize the equipment.
