Botoșani ( botoˈʃanʲ ? / I , German Botoschan or Bottuschan ) is a city in northeast Romania and is located in the Botoșani district of the same name . The city is surrounded by the Eastern Carpathians , the Republic of Moldova and the Ukraine . In October 2011 the population was 106,847. Audio file / audio sample
