Bouvante is a French municipality with 226 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Drôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Valence in the canton of Vercors-Monts du Matin (until 2015: canton of Saint-Jean-en-Royans ). The inhabitants are called bouvantiens .

Bouvante is about 45 kilometers southeast of Grenoble . The municipality belongs to the Vercors Regional Nature Park . The Font-d'Urle / Chaud Clapier winter sports area is located here . Bouvante is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Saint-Martin-le-Colonel and Saint-Jean-en-Royans in the north, Saint-Laurent-en-Royans in the northeast, La Chapelle-en-Vercors in the east and northeast, Vassieux-en-Vercors in the east and south-east, Saint-Julien-en-Quint in the south and south-east, Omblèze in the south and south-west, Léoncel in the west and Oriol-en-Royans in the north-west.

In 1978 a stone meteorite weighing 8.3 kilograms was found near Bouvante-le-Haut . It was classified as an achondrite of the eukrite type.
