Carbajosa de la Sagrada is a western Spanish city and a municipality ( municipio ) with 7,116 inhabitants (at January 1, 2019) in the province of Salamanca in the autonomous community of Castile and Leon .
Location and climate
The place Carbajosa de la Sagrada is only about 6 km (driving distance) south of the provincial capital Salamanca at an altitude of about 795 m . The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 415 mm / year) falls mainly in the winter half-year.

The rapid population increase since the beginning of the 21st century is due to the planning and creation of new building districts near the city of Salamanca.
economy
For centuries, the population of the community lived on agriculture, which included cattle breeding, on a self-sufficient basis ; excess income could be sold in Salamanca. Craftsmen and small traders have settled in the village.
history
It is believed that the Celtic tribe of the Vettones settled here, but there are no traces of them, as well as of the Romans , Visigoths and even of the Moors who advanced north in the 8th century . After the Christian reconquest ( reconquista ) around the year 1200 , King Alfonso IX. from León the area of Carbajosa free for repopulation ( repoblación ) . On July 22, 1812, about 8 km south of the town, an important battle took place during the Spanish Wars of Liberation between English and French troops.
Attractions
The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is a simple building from the 15th or 16th century. Its portal-free and unadorned west facade is raised by a two-part bell gable (espadaña) . On the other hand, almost the entire length of the south side is taken up by an imposing column-supported vestibule ( portico or galería porticada) . The three-aisled interior of the church, formed by large candle arches , is not vaulted, but is spanned by wooden ceilings. A crucifix on a wall section made of quarry stone behind the altar is impressive .
