Qualifying teams' venues

The Challenge League was held for the fifth time with ten teams. As in the Super League , the ten clubs each competed four times against each opponent, twice at home and twice away. In total, each team played 36 games. The first-placed FC Zurich rose to the Super League at the end of the season, FC Le Mont-sur-Lausanne was forcibly relegated.

²FC Le Mont was refused the license for the 2017/18 season in the first instance, whereupon an appeal was waived and on May 1, 2017, the voluntary withdrawal from the Challenge League was announced.
