Korčula [ ˈkɔːrtʃula ] (German outdated Kurzel, Italian Curzola , ancient Greek Μέλαινα Κόρκυρα Melaina Korkyra "Black Corfu " [after the dark pine forests], Latin Corcyra Nigra ) is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea off the coast of southern Dalmatia .
