The German U-20 national soccer team is a selection team of German soccer players . It is subject to the German Football Association (DFB) and represents it internationally at the U-20 level , for example in friendly matches against the teams of other national associations or at the world championships of the world association FIFA .
Age regulation
Eligible to play are players who have not yet reached the age of 20 and who are German citizens. The current year refers to all players born on January 1st, 1999 or later.
history
The DFB team qualified for a Junior World Cup for the first time in 1981, it was the third Junior World Cup in Australia , and won it with a 4-0 final against Qatar .
In 1983 and 1985, the German selection could not qualify for the finals. At the Junior World Cup in 1987 , she managed to make it into the final, which she lost to Yugoslavia 4-5 on penalties.
In 1989 and 1991, the German team could not qualify for the final tournaments again. At the following World Championships in Australia in 1993 and in Qatar in 1995 , the DFB selection was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 1997 and 1999 she failed to qualify.
At the 2001 World Junior Cup in Argentina, the German team lost to France in the round of 16. The 2003 Junior World Cup brought the Germans back to the preliminary round.
At the Junior World Cup in the Netherlands in 2005 , the German team made it to the quarter-finals, which they lost 2-1 to Brazil. She did not qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Canada in 2007 .
Already by the first two victories at the U-19 European Championship 2008 in the Czech Republic from July 14th to 27th, the former German national soccer team of the DFB-U-19-Juniors , after a 3-1 win in the final against Italy European champion was also qualified for the U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009 . There the team reached the finals and were only eliminated in the quarterfinals with 1: 2 afterwards against Brazil.
By winning the U-19 European Football Championship in 2014 , the German team qualified for the U-20 World Cup in 2015 in New Zealand , where they failed in the quarter-finals to Mali on penalties. With a fourth place at the U-19 European Football Championship in 2016 , the German team qualified for the U-20 World Cup in 2017 .
