The Schwetzingen University of Justice is a state institution of the state of Baden-Württemberg in Schwetzingen . It is an in-house university where trainee judicial officers from the states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland are trained in a three-year course to become qualified judicial officers (FH).

Since September 1, 2016, for the first time bailiff candidates from the state of Baden-Württemberg have been trained in a three-year bachelor’s course to become bailiffs (LL.B.) at the Schwetzingen University for the first time .

history

In 1953, the state of Baden-Württemberg opened its own judicial clerk school in Schwetzingen, in which judicial officers of the middle service were trained to become judicial clerks together with high school graduates. In 1979 the Rechtspflegerschule was transferred to a university of applied sciences in the state of Baden-Württemberg in accordance with the University of Applied Sciences Act. In 1994, studies at the University of Applied Sciences were reformed in a university-oriented way.

Location

The university and its predecessor institutions have been housed in the southern wing of Schwetzingen Castle since it was founded. After extensive renovation and modernization measures in 2013, teaching could be resumed at the usual location after the university was temporarily outsourced.

Education

The specialist course to become a legal clerk takes place in two stages:

Technical studies I

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Period: September of the first year of training to July of the first year of training

In this first phase of study at the university, the basic legal knowledge required for professional practice is imparted.

Study practice

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Period: September of the second year of training to August of the second year of training

Here, the knowledge acquired from the subject-related course I should be deepened in practice and working methods learned. This phase is carried out in local courts and public prosecutor's offices. In Baden-Württemberg there is the possibility of completing the internship with notaries and / or land registry offices.

Technical studies II

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Period: September of the third year of training to August of the third year of training
