The Felder See area is a nature reserve (NSG number 4.044) in the southeast of the municipality of Waldburg in the Baden-Württemberg district of Ravensburg in Germany, which was designated by ordinance of April 28, 1969 of the regional council of South Württemberg-Hohenzollern .
Location and description
The approximately eleven hectares large nature reserve fields lake is part of the natural area Upper Swabian hills . It is located about 3.2 kilometers southeast of the center of Waldburg at an altitude of around 667 m above sea level. NN and substantially comprising the former of a kettle hole formed fields sea with its wide silting belt .
The latter statement is in contrast to claims made by locals, according to which the Felder lake was originally a wasenmoos, i.e. a peat bite that is said to have ignited itself around the turn of the century, smoldered for a long time and then filled with water. The owner at the time tried to drain the land and make it arable. He hired former soldiers from the community to build a drainage tunnel through the wooded ridge south of the lake, as they had learned to do on the western front. But the tunnel threatened to collapse and they gave up in time.
Until the beginning of 1970 the lake served as a bathing lake for the surrounding area. In April 1945, before the French troops marched in, tens of ammunition was sunk from the nearby telecommunications post in the lake and then fished out by the local youth.
What is interesting compared to comparable lakes is a floating island that the wind can slowly drive from one bank to the other.
