Fontcouverte is a western French municipality with 2354 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Fontcouverte belongs to the Arrondissement Saintes and the Canton of Chaniers (until 2015: Canton Saintes-Nord ). The inhabitants are called Fontcouvertois .

geography

Fontcouverte is located about four kilometers northeast of Saintes on the Escambouille stream in the Saintonge countryside . Fontcouverte is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Douhet in the north, Vénérand in the northeast, La Chapelle-des-Pots in the east, Chaniers in the southeast, Saintes in the south and west and Bussac-sur-Charente in the northwest.

The station is on the Chartres – Bordeaux line .
