Chaniers is a French municipality with 3590 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Saintes and the Canton of Chaniers . The inhabitants are called Chagnolais (es) .
geography
Chaniers lies on the Charente , into which the Coran tributary flows. Chaniers is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Chapelle-des-Pots in the north, Saint-Césaire in the northeast, Saint-Sauvant and Dompierre-sur-Charente in the east, Saint-Sever-de-Saintonge in the southeast, Courcoury in the south, Les Gonds in the Southwest, Saintes in the west and Fontcouverte in the northwest.
Chaniers train station is on the Chartres – Bordeaux line . The National Route 141 runs through the municipality .
