The 1968/69 season was the 13th season of the third-class Verbandsliga Westfalen . The Westphalia champion was the DJK Gütersloh , which, like the SpVgg Erkenschwick and the SG Wattenscheid 09, made the leap into the regional league in the following round of promotion . Erler SV 08 , SpVg Marl and SV Porta Neesen got out of group 1 ; SG Castrop-Rauxel , TuS Eving-Lindenhorst and RSV Höh from group 2 . From the Regionalliga West no team was relegated to the Association League. The amateurs of Borussia Dortmund , TuS Hattingen , Arminia Marten , RSV Meinerzhagen , Minden 05 and Spvg Steinhagen rose from the national leagues .

Playoffs for the runner-up
The teams equal on points of STV Horst-Emscher and SSV Hagen should return game determine the runner-up of the season. 2 Both teams were tied on points and goals after the two games. Horst-Emscher finally won by tossing a coin and reached the qualifying game for the German Amateur Championship.

Westphalia Championship
The two group winners determined the Westphalia champion in a decider. On May 24, 1969, the DJK Gütersloh prevailed in neutral Hamm with 3-1 against the SG Wattenscheid 09. Both teams qualified for the promotion round to Regionalliga West .

Qualification for the German Amateur Championship
The runners-up of the two groups determined the Westphalian participant in the German amateur championship in one game . On May 26, 1969, the SpVgg Erkenschwick prevailed in front of 5,500 spectators in the neutral Castrop-Rauxel with 2-1 goals and reached the final of the German amateur championship.

After the first two teams of the Regionalliga West Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Rot-Weiss Essen had made it to the Bundesliga , all four teams that played the promotion round to the Regionalliga were promoted to the Regionalliga. The last of the promotion round Borussia Brand renounced as did the vice-champion of the Niederrhein association Bayer 05 Uerdingen . Then a playoff between SpVgg Erkenschwick and SSV Hagen was scheduled. On July 20, 1969, the Erkenschwicker defeated in Dortmund's Rote Erde stadium in front of over 20,000 spectators Hagen 2-1 after extra time and also moved into the regional league.
