Lusan is the most populous part of the city of Gera . It is located in the south of the city between Zeulsdorf and Bundesstraße 92 and is divided into three parts of the municipality: Lusan-Brüte , Lusan-Laune and Lusan-Zentrum .

The place Lusan was first mentioned in 1248. In 1919 the village was incorporated into Gera. Due to the expected population growth in Gera in the 1970s and 1980s, new living space was to be created. From the laying of the foundation stone on April 28, 1972, a new district of the same name was built adjacent to the village of Lusan, with a large part of the new building area lying on the corridor of the neighboring Zeulsdorf district. In 1985 Lusan had about 45,000 inhabitants. The increasing number of inhabitants made a tram line necessary, which has been running since 1977, initially to the Brüte terminus , and from 1979 to the Lusan terminus, every five minutes during rush hour. The Church of St. Ursula is one of the oldest buildings in today's urban area.

Lusan today

Despite the declining population, Lusan is the most populous district of Gera. In December 2005, 26,051 citizens had their residence here. Through renovation, modernization and the demolition of individual buildings, the district was adapted to the changed conditions ( energy saving ordinance , decrease in the number of inhabitants). Numerous green spaces are part of the cityscape. There are also facilities for sports and leisure, such as the Lusan sports park or the Brüte sports field. The tram lines 2 to Zwötzen station and 3 to Bieblach Ost are currently running in Lusan . There are also bus lines 15 to the Keplerstrasse business park and 13 to Schafpreskel .

politics

Lusan has no district constitution , therefore no district council and no district mayor .
