The handball GDR league of men 1982/83 was the top division of the season in indoor handball in the GDR , with it the GDR champions were determined for the 33rd time.

Season course

The handball league began on October 9, 1982 and ended with the last game on February 27, 1983 with the 20th game day. As usual, ten teams took part, among them the five long-established sports clubs. The defending champions SC Magdeburg started the season with two away defeats defeats in Berlin and Frankfurt , but remained in the second half without loss point. So he finally won his fourth championship in a row with one point ahead of ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt . The best company sports association was the BSG Post Schwerin in sixth place, six points behind the fifth place in the table, SC Empor Rostock . The two promoted BSG Chemie Piesteritz and SG Dynamo Suhl-Mitte had to leave the league again after just one season. In places four and five, as well as seven and eight, the teams had reached the same number of points; the games against each other decide on the final placement.
