Holy Guardian Angel (Frillendorf)
The Catholic parish church Hl. Guardian Angel is a listed church building in Frillendorf , a district of Essen .
History and architecture
The building in the style of brick expressionism stands on a slight hill. It was built in 1923/24 according to plans by the architect Edmund Körner . The combination of central and directional building is characteristic of the modern Catholic interior. The lighting concept evokes a mystical room atmosphere. The elliptical floor plan with the six attached, semicircular chapels is based on the church of St. Gereon in Cologne. This is followed by the two-storey entrance building with vestibule and organ loft - the organ loft is no longer used today - and the hexagonal choir raised by the tower . There is now a smaller organ in the choir room. The domed room is brightly painted, the chapels and the choir are in bold colors taken .
Furnishing
The wreath of guardian angel figures made of plaster was created by Edmund Körner in 1923/24. The majolica reliefs of the Stations of the Cross were purchased in 1937. The organ was built in 2001 by Orgelbau Simon from Borgentreich .
Bells
Music director Jakob Schaeben (1905–1980) worked out a tonal assessment of the peal. The comparison of the sound analyzes makes it clear that a flawless attunement not only of the bells with each other, but also of the individual sounds is achieved. The established reverberation values show that the best metal rich in tin was cast at a good temperature. The high vibration energy and very good harmony of the bells in conjunction with the beautiful acoustics of the bell room result in a sound effect of extraordinary animation, fullness and clarity. This bell should be described as exemplary.
